How it works

  1. 1

    Describe your case

Delay, cancellation or taxi costs? The assistant only asks what is relevant to your case and tells you immediately what you can likely claim.

  2. 2

    Enter your details

Journey data, proof (ticket screenshot, taxi receipt), bank details — with plausibility and IBAN checks so nothing gets rejected.

  3. 3

    Send the PDF

You get the completed, signed official form with all attachments as a single PDF — pre-addressed for email or post.

  2. 2You review the details and sign in your browser
  3. 3Send by email or post — the data lives in the URL fragment and never reaches our server

Frequently asked questions

When do I get money back for a train delay?

Under EU Regulation 2021/782 you are entitled to 25 % of the fare from 60 minutes delay at your destination, and 50 % from 120 minutes. This applies to regional rail (S-Bahn, RB, RE) — not to metro, tram or bus. Amounts under €4 are not paid out.

The last train of the day was cancelled — who pays my taxi?

If the last scheduled train of the day is cancelled and you cannot reach your destination before midnight, the operator reimburses taxi costs up to €120. The same applies if your scheduled arrival is between 0:00 and 5:00 and a delay of at least 60 minutes is expected. Private car costs (mileage) are not reimbursed.

How do I claim passenger rights with RMV or VIAS?

RMV tickets are processed via the official form "Antrag auf Entschädigung/Erstattung": completed and signed, sent to RMV Servicegesellschaft (Postfach 11 15 42, 60050 Frankfurt). VIAS cases go by email to service@vias-online.eu. This tool fills exactly that form digitally for you.

What proof do I need?

The original ticket, or for HandyTicket the single/collective receipt (screenshot/PDF from the app); for eTickets the chip card number plus receipt. For taxi, hotel or IC/ICE tickets additionally the original receipts.

How long do I have to file?

Filing within 3 months is recommended; the hard limit is one year after the ticket's validity ends.

Is this tool official RMV software?

No. FairFahrt is an independent, free tool and is not affiliated with RMV, VIAS or any other transport operator. It produces the official claim form, which you submit yourself in your own name.

Does this also work for other networks like RNV/VRN?

EU rail passenger rights apply nationwide to railway services — including operators in the VRN (Rhine-Neckar) area. This tool currently produces the RMV/VIAS form; for other networks use the generated PDF as a template or the form at fahrgastrechte.info. More networks are planned.
