RMV compensation for cancelled or delayed trains: how to claim online

What compensation am I entitled to on RMV?

Regional trains in the RMV network (S-Bahn, RegionalBahn, RegionalExpress) are covered by EU passenger rights under Regulation (EU) 2021/782: from 60 minutes delay at your destination you get 25 % of the fare back, from 120 minutes 50 %. Amounts under €4 are not paid out.

For season tickets a flat rate applies: €1.50 per delay without a 1st-class supplement, €2.25 with one — to be submitted collectively once at least €4 is reached.

Train cancelled and trip not taken?

If a cancellation or an expected delay of more than 60 minutes makes the whole journey pointless, you may abandon or not start the trip — and claim a full refund of the fare, including the distance already travelled and the return to your departure station.

How do I file the claim?

RMV tickets are processed via the official form "Antrag auf Entschädigung/Erstattung". It must be fully completed, signed and sent with the original ticket (or HandyTicket receipt) to RMV Servicegesellschaft mbH, Postfach 11 15 42, 60050 Frankfurt am Main.

Our free assistant fills exactly this form digitally: guided questions, IBAN validation, finger-drawn signature, finished PDF with all attachments. Recommended deadline: 3 months; at the latest one year after the ticket's validity ends.

What about smaller delays?

Under 60 minutes, EU passenger rights do not apply. However, RMV voluntarily offers the 10-minute guarantee (Mobilitätsgarantie) — with its own rules and lower amounts, but it also covers metro, tram and bus.
